In this communications masterclass, we’ll be exploring the ‘whats’ and ‘whys’ of human psychology as it pertains to the way people form relationships (and then withdraw from those relationships) to help you better write character interactions and more believable interplay. We’ll be examining the Knapp/Viglaseti model of communication, and studying how to put it into practice as a framework for the way your characters interact. This is an intermediate to advanced course, as writers are expected to already know the ‘hows’ of communication and execute it effectively. We will not be covering how to write dialogue or deploy body language in your characters. Rather, we’ll be deep-diving a superstructure for relationships that you will pen your dialogue around to ultimately craft more compelling, believable, and human relationships between your characters.
About Ryan Cipriani
Ryan Cipriani is the author of the comedic epic fantasy saga The Mythical, Mystical, Magnificent Adventures of Krög: The Battle Prince. He was born in Ohio in 1985, and maintains that of all the many places he has lived, Ohio is invariably still home. While Krög’s adventures form the backbone of his work, he has written a number of other novels and was the lead author on the ill-fated online ‘zine “The Lemonade Stand Massacre,” a project he still reviews fondly despite the mismanagement that ultimately doomed it. Additionally, Ryan has been a guest lecturer for Elegant Literature, and has instructional articles published with them. He volunteers for several political action groups devoted to protecting libraries and literacy, and defending student access to books. Currently he writes for EveryLibrary and the Florida Freedom To Read Project.
Ryan resides in Tennessee, where he has lived since 2019. He continues to write and support other authors through instruction and mentorship.
