Live 3-week Course With Shiv Ramdas

Multi-award nominated author and EL guest judge Shiv Ramdas is teaching a 3 day humor writing course. He previously taught this program at Clarion West. The course, spread over 3 weeks, will give you the tools to make your writing funny and keep readers entertained. Laughing during the lessons is not only allowed, but inevitable.

The live training dates are as follows:

Free to all members
Framing: We delve into the paradigm of humour writing, look at setting the appropriate mindset and approach to the craft, and examine some of the tools and techniques that open up to us as a result of this.

Week 2: Saturday October 7th at 1pm EST
Form: We dive into specific approaches to humour writing, and the practical application of various techniques and tools of humour writing, as well as some examples in practice.

Week 3: Saturday October 14th at 1pm EST
Function: We continue our exploration of different techniques of humour writing, and bring our discussion full circle with a focus on how to apply the techniques and tools we have studied to our own work. To cap off we discuss some of the business aspects of humour writing in the contemporary market.

 All sessions will include allotted time for questions, clarifications, and other student input.

About Shiv Ramdas:

Shiv is a multi-award nominated author of speculative fiction short stories and novels. He lives and writes in Seattle, Washington with his wife and three cats. In 2020 he became one of only two Indian writers to ever be nominated for a Hugo, a Nebula and an Ignyte Award in the same year. He also gained Twitter fame in 2020 for live-tweeting the saga of his brother-in-law’s rice mishap. His first novel, Domechild, was India’s first mainstream cyberpunk novel. His short fiction has appeared in Slate, Strange Horizons, Fireside Fiction, Podcastle and other publications. 

He is a graduate of the Clarion West Writers Workshop. He was previously a radio host, and worked in journalism, advertising, and event management. In addition to his speculative fiction work he has also penned numerous advertisements, radio segments, audio plays and resignation letters.
