About This Training
You have an outline of your story. Maybe it’s a single page of bullet points or ten pages of detailed notes. Or perhaps you’ve no plan at all and you are discovering your story as you write it. But be you “plotter” or “pantser”, inevitably, at some point, there will be something that just doesn’t make sense….
How can you possibly solve this problem? Sure, fiction gives us the freedom to invent anything, but not just any old solution will work. The key is making something up that makes sense within your story. And one of the best tools for doing this is genre.
Drawing on my experience as a writer and editor, this lesson explores how understanding and leveraging genre conventions can help you identify plot problems and come up with compelling solutions that make sense within the world of your story. You’ll learn how to consider and apply genre as a creative engine to help you push past problems and finish that first draft.
