January Prompt

Write a story involving Flawed Futures, and a seed.

Breathe the tainted air. Towering skyscrapers cast long shadows that speak of dreams and downfall. The future, once a bright star, now flickers uncertainly in the neon-lit night. Do you grieve for a simpler era, or take power and profit where you can?

Utopia’s promise crumbles into dystopian truth. Teleportation, terraforming, thought control. Amidst technological marvels, human connection frays at the edges. A time when love is rationed and emotions are currency. What will you sacrifice for progress? Climate and conscience? Cybernetic enhancements: a panacea for the elite. Spaceships voyage to distant stars, seeking new beginnings yet carrying old burdens. Or maybe the divergent point is behind us and we live the failure of our forebears? Perhaps it is your personal path that has gone astray, each fork taking you farther from the ideal life. In this flawed future, do you dare to find hope and rebuild, not in steel and code, but in the very essence of humanity? Where, then, do you begin?

This issue invites you to explore Flawed Futures, whatever that means to you. Fantasy, contemporary, romance, crime. All genres are welcome.

Submissions close January 31st at 11:59 pm EST. Magazine only open to new writers.
