The 7 Basic Plots

About This Training

An exploration of the 7 basic plots and how to use (or invert) them to good effect. This workshop offers a broad exploration of the seven basic plots that form the foundation of most stories told throughout history. We’ll take a look at what these core narrative structures are, why they continue to resonate with readers, and how they can be recognized everywhere. You’ll gain a deeper appreciation for the patterns that underpin storytelling and consider how these plots can be used, combined, or inverted in your own work. Whether you’re new to the concept or just want a refresher, this session provides a flexible and engaging overview of the narrative building blocks that continue to shape stories across all genres.
