The Reader’s Window into the Story

About This Training

101 level to intermediate

Everyone agrees that a book’s opening pages are all-important in winning the reader’s sympathy and attention. But knowing that doesn’t make it easy to create a compelling opening. That’s often because the way the author approaches the story is far different from how the reader should be introduced to it.

In this workshop, we’ll look at real opening scenes from published books of various genres, discussing what works and what doesn’t work — and then we’ll apply those insights to helping writers move from the author’s perspective to look at how they can most effectively draw readers into their own stories.
